Thinking Systemically & Acting Cooperatively - Now What??
Hey - wasn't the 2008 Bioneer Conference inspiring and illuminating?? Now that we are on fire with the concepts of activism, biomimicry, thinking systemically, acting cooperatively, finding the trim tabs, realizing that WE own the bank, that we must create the MANDATE that Obama will implement from the CENTER for a sustainable and abundant future - and that we had better act TOGETHER, and FAST to gain and keep the incredible opportunities that have just yawned open before us ------ let's do it!
But--what?? ANd how??
That's what this blog is for...let's figure it out how to make the best use of this moment, and our passion to make a better world. Like Naomi Klein said -- do we have as much passion and zeal as the people that are paid to "care" by the people who make tanks?? (That is - can we push back harder than those lobbyists that are spinning things right now to privatize the handling of OUR money for the sole benefit of - not us- and all the other awful stuff ?) And -- our only obstacle is our own timidity! We can certainly overcome THAT!
Because this MOMENT in history is so very fraught with both peril and opportunity - how can we find the "trim tabs" to create a sustainable future?
What are the most important things for us to achieve RIGHT NOW?
I suggest they are:
*Make sure Obama wins (vote)
*Make sure we the people get advantage from the bank nationalizing, and the huge amount of money we have just coughed up to "save" the banks and the econmy; and creation and implementation of socially responsible financial regulation
*Make sure the lies that have been exposed remain exposed - like - regulation and government are bad --
the bankers and rich people are very smart, and, oh yes, the money WILL trickle down, just let the 1% get rich ENOUGH...etc
* Make sure our money is applied to what we believe in- a green economy, green energy, local food, health care, infrastructure improvements, public radio and tv, etc etc
* It didn't come up at the Bioneers much -- but look out - the neo-cons are "gunning" for Iran, or will they let Isreal do it?? Anyway -- it is likely to happen before the new president takes office - hoping it's Obama - or, God forbid, shortly after, if not. Just in case, probably before... HOW CAN WE PREVENT THIS???
Of course there are many social and environmental improvements that can be made - but I am suggesting that we need to focus right now on a few things - and this is my suggested list.

Individually we can:
VOTE
Write our congress people about 1) demanding a vote in the management of the banks we just bought. 2) reinstate the Tobin Act, to fairlyy tax financial transactions, and dedicate that $ for infrastructure/health care/a green economy/ the art / uncensored and manipulated public radio and TV, education, etc etc.
Write a letter to the editor demanding the same.
what else?
